The blended classroom is one in which students spend part of their class time in a traditional setting, face to face with a teacher and peers, but they also spend part of their time working online. This online work could be done in the school building, at home or in another school district. Please post your initial thoughts on this topic: advantages, disadvantages, likelihood of this being part of the future of education, etc. After you have posted your initial thoughts, please read and comment on at least one other persons post.
I really believe blended learning will become more and more popular in the future, due to teacher shortages in some areas, more higher education institutions are using online classes, etc.
ReplyDeleteOne advantage that comes to mind immediately is the instructor can spend more time with struggling students in small groups or individually. A disadvantage for some students may be not having access to the instructor on a daily basis.
Blended learning seems to work extremely well for some and be a challenge for others - staff and students alike. Blended learning supports differentiated instruction and gives students a taste of what learning post-secondarily can be. Also, blended learning offers an appeal to some students who may not be as responsive to non-blended, and thus increases student engagement.
ReplyDeleteThe advantages I see relate to a flipped sort of learning that allows the instructor to offer more support during the times that the classes meet.
One disadvantage I see is that in order to truly 'blend' it takes a great deal of preparation and management which can seem overwhelming at first and sometimes makes instructors shy away from doing. It is a whole different mindset than what some of us are used to.
It does seem to be coming more and more prevalent and it is nice to see pockets of it happening more and more in our school.
could you comment on why you do not recommend to teach with a online class
